The principles of servant leadership are being employed in different organizations, which are attributed to the benefits associated with servant leadership to an organization in achieving the desired goals and objectives (Davis, 2017). A servant leader is committed in helping his/her organization and members of the organization through taking care of their needs before his/her own needs (Davis, 2017). This can be achieved through taking extra working hours to implement strategies to empower the employees, which will also encourage and motivate the workers. Time is an important resource to an organization and to any leader which if used effectively, it can lead to the success of an organization (Greenleaf, 2018).
Another principle of servant leadership that is being employed in the workplace is respecting the employees. When leaders respect their subordinates, it leads to an improved relationship between the employees and the leader, which is important in a work setting (Greenleaf, 2018). Respect in an organization can be shown by the leaders giving opportunities to their employees to participate in the decision-making process. This will give the employees a chance to give their opinions in relation to certain aspects in the organization (Greenleaf, 2018). This makes the employees to feel valued and respected which in turn motivates them in performing their roles and responsibilities which positively impacts the organization. This will also help a leader in understanding his/her employees, which will give the organization a good reputation and motivate the employees (Greenleaf, 2018).
From reading the article, I have learned that the focus of servant leadership should be on the employees where a leader can achieve this by implementing strategies to empower and encourage his/her employees (Davis, 2017). This is important as employees are responsible for a majority of the operations of an organization and play an important role in determining the success or failure of an organization (Davis, 2017). I would also consider applying servant leadership in a similar way as this would help me in addressing some of the challenges experienced in the decision-making process by involving the employees in the decision-making process. This would motivate the employees in carrying out their roles and responsibilities, which will also lead to a competitive advantage of the organization (Davis, 2017).
