In Andy Mulligan’s novel trash, a person’s personality is important when they attempt to overcome their hardships ‘With the right key, you can bust the door wide open. Because nobody’s going to open it for you’ (page 9) This quote tells about the personality that the three boys had throughout the story. The three boys had a do it myself attitude. Which was very important, as people aren’t always as trustworthy as they seem. One of example of mistrust is when Gabriel Olondriz gave his bible to a guard, hoping for him to give it to the kids. This bible contained important information to help the three boys crack the code that Jose left. After the guard found out the importance of the bible. He made the kids buy the bible for a substantial amount of money. Instead of just giving it to them. To sum it up, the mentality the three kids had played an important role in helping them overcome their poverty.
