Marijuana has been regarded as a harmful plant that can endanger lives and is thought to be nothing more than an extra problem to be dealt with today. However, based on its economical values and medical benefits, the cannabis plant has proven to outweigh its negatives with numerous positives. Each year more Americans support legalizing marijuana. Many states around the U.S. have made marijuana illegal because of the federal government laws , as a result, people who can benefit from the use of cannabis are without luck. In addition, these benefits are not exclusively just medical. Researchers have been able to link the legalization of cannabis to a decrease in crime rates and an immense financial boost for states where it is legal.
The legalization of marijuana can exponentially bring in billions in federal tax revenue per year to the United States economy by introducing profitable businesses and jobs. Few states, such as Colorado, have taken the first initiative to legalize and tax marijuana for both medical and recreational use. Back in 2014, Colorado’s pot tax revenue jumped from $67 million a year alone to a staggering $ 247 million in 2017. With all that money being collected, it is also being used and being put into things like schools, bullying preventions, substance and abuse treatment centers; it also helps with encouraging entrepreneurs to invest more into the industry that way the revenue keeps increasing.
In the illegal states, the United State government invested billions into enforcing the prevention of marijuana use and other social public welfare and relief programs. (Michigan) As a result, the legalization of marijuana will only help us save money which can be possibly used for other causes in our country. Until recently, it was not possible for people to invest in the marijuana trade market. The legalization opened opportunities for our country to thrive off because as scientist continues to research more about this plant. We conclude that it’s not dangerous like we previously been told in the past.
Since legalization among the states have started quite recently, research have been conducted to further clarify the understanding of marijuana. Some misconceptions marijuana currently have is, it is dangerous or deadly for our health, it is a “gateway drug”, it is highly addicting. Many individuals distance themselves sometimes because of these reasonings. As researchers learn more about the effects of marijuana short and long term to a human. Researchers came to conclusion that majority of the ideas we had about the cannabis plant was either false or not severe as predicted.
Marijuana also known as weed or pot is a greenish-gray plant of cannabis sativa which can be rolled up by hand and smoked like a cigarette called a joint or be baked into things like brownies and cookies. In numerous scientific studies researchers have discovered medical benefits from cannabis. The medicinal powers which helps with things like pain, anxiety, cancer, and seizures. However, not everyone sees the positive benefits marijuana has to offer and instead see it as a drug that can potentially damage the community
Legalizing weed would help crimes of drug possession go down because if it was legal people would not have to hide the fact that they are growing using and selling weed illegally.
Marijuana has always been an issue in our country’s history. However, today, it has gained more attention than it has in the recent decades. People were raised and taught since their early years that this plant brings nothing but trouble to your life if you consume it, for any reason. However, marijuana isn’t as bad as we were all taught that it was. Legalizing marijuana can actually bring many benefits to many groups in today’s society. It’s actually not that bad of a plant once you get to know it a little better.
