Many authorities have tried to expound and describe the concept of student engagement. Student engagement refers to the degree of attention, curiosity, interest, optimism, and passion that students’ exhibit when they are learning or being taught, which extends to the level of motivation they have to learn and progress in their education (Hong ; Masood, 2014). It describes students’ willingness to participate in routine school activities, such as attending lectures, submitting subject requirements, and following teachers’ instructions in class.
Research has shown that learners considerably benefit from the learning process when they are actively engaged (Bojinova ; Oigara, 2013). It is because 21st century learners are active learners. Educational organizations are looking for ways to encourage student achievement and promote student engagement in everyday classroom instruction. Archambault, ; Dupéré, (2016) proposed a definition of engagement made up of behavioral, emotional, and cognitive dimensions.
